STE AURELIE
FOREST CONSERVATION
Ste Aurelie, Maine
Spanning over 519,000 hectares of timberland in Northern Maine, this large-scale forest restoration project is focused on replanting degraded areas with native conifer species to restore healthy, biodiverse forest cover for generations to come.
By addressing the impacts of weed competition, low-quality short-lived species, and delayed natural regeneration, the project promotes the regrowth of resilient, indigenous forests that offer a wide range of long-term environmental benefits. These include improved biodiversity, enhanced soil health, protection of local water systems, and the creation of critical wildlife habitat and migratory corridors—particularly for deer and other forest-dwelling species.
In addition to supporting cleaner air and natural carbon recycling, the project enriches the regional ecosystem with a distinctive forest type, increasing overall biodiversity in contrast to neighboring lands.
